Resumo

A sepse de nota uma resposta inflamatória sistêmica de origem infecciosa, podendoser causada por vírus, fungos ou bactérias. A sepse compreende pelo menos três processos distintos, porém interligados e que acontecem quase concomitantemente, que contribuem para a evolução da patologia, sendo o foco infeccioso, como agente causal; a resposta inflamatória sistêmica e por fim, as alterações hemodinâmicas. Embora nos últimos anos grandes avanços na compreensão da patogenia da sepse e novas estratégias terapêuticas tenham sido obtidos, sua prevalência e taxa de mortalidade não foram modificados e permanecem elevados. Ainda há poucas informações epidemiológicas consistentes que permitam investigação adequada, e estratégias preventivas ou corretivas em relação a este problema no Brasil, deste modo a sepse representa a principal causa de morte nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma revisão da epidemiologia, mecanismos fisiopatológicos, diagnóstico,tratamento e a influência da equipe de enfermagem na evolução da sepse.
