Abstract

Research on monogastric production and greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions often relies on small sample sizes compared to the national scope of the activity in their countries of origin. This systematic review aimed to assess the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in Brazilian swine production and its GHG emissions. The Proknow-C method was applied to quantify research and a similarity analysis was performed using the VoSViewer® software to systematically evaluate the content. The descriptors were led by Life cycle assessment”, followed by “Pig Production”, “Swine Production”, “Greenhouse Gas Emissions”, “Piglet Production”, and “Brazil”. Brazil stands out in studies on environmental impacts and the development of mitigation technologies, but there is still a lack of results on the products of these technologies. A trend has been observed to study the impact of feeding and waste treatment systems on GHG emissions. Through the selected descriptors, it was observed that there are still gaps when it comes to life cycle assessment in national pig farming.
